The Ode

I was never meant to be hidden, in the shadows of a Name,
Nor remain marooned on a pedestal that I did not create.
Looking down upon the mediocre beneath, condescendingly,
Forced my fear of confinement to condemn me to flee.

I didn't feel that I belonged into where I was born,
So I retaliated until those puppet strings were torn.
Driven by defiance, I dared not settle with familiarity,
Lost among strangers, I faced my forgotten identity.

Here you rescued me, when I had nowhere else to go,
And became home for giving me the solace I sought.
As I let my unregretted mistakes define me,
You let me live every dream that I dared to believe.

As the Old and New crossroads progressed,
Into their ultimate separation, you witnessed,
From the Modern to the Heritage,
My wrecked soul that I salvaged.
